Dive Brief:
- Subway will sell a different six-inch sub with a small drink, chips or two cookies for $6.99 each day of the week for a limited time, the company said in a Monday press release. Guests can buy the sub of the day combo as a footlong for $9.99.
- Prices for the promotion are higher in Alaska and California — the former is a geographically isolated market, the latter has a $20 sectoral minimum wage for fast food workers.
- The chain previously offered a $6.99 meal deal on all of its “chef curated” six-inch subs, but cut the promo short in late November and shifted to a digital offer.
Dive Insight:
Value plays from last year, such as Subway’s modified meal deal and Del Taco’s expanded value menu, have rolled into 2025. This trend suggests brands are likely seeing continued price sensitivity from consumers.
Subway’s new value deal applies to a different sub each day of the week, following the schedule below:
- Monday - Cold Cut Combo
- Tuesday - All-Pro Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki
- Wednesday - Meatball Marinara
- Thursday - All-New Baja Chipotle Chicken
- Friday - Tuna
- Saturday - The Ultimate B.M.T.
- Sunday - The Philly
Restricting the value deal to one sandwich each day limits the potential appeal to consumers, but does give Subway the ability to choose subs it feels will drive sales or that have a relatively stronger margin than other sandwiches at the $6.99 price point.
Subway is also serving two limited-time sandwiches in its Baja Bliss collection. The Baja subs are made with a choice of turkey or chicken on Italian bread, with vegetables, Subway's SubKrunch sandwich topping and Baja Chipotle sauce, according to the press release.
Subway’s long-term turnaround, which began under former CEO John Chidsey, has hinged on overhauling its menu. This change began with 2021’s Eat Fresh Refresh, followed by the debut and expansion of the Subway Series in 2022 and 2023. The chain has also added a number of snack items — footlong churros, cookies and pretzels — in a bid to capture different dining occasions at a low price point.
