Panera has updated its bakery items with five new pastries and three croissant breakfast sandwiches, the chain said Wednesday in a press release.
This year, the chain has undertaken several menu transformations, the biggest of which rolled out in April with new or enhanced sandwiches, salads and mac and cheese.
“We are continuing to transform our menu in line with guest preferences and are excited to offer even more delicious reasons to visit Panera,” Alicia Mowder, Panera’s senior vice president of product strategy and insights, said in a statement. “Our guests visit Panera for the sweet, the spicy and even the 'swicy', and our goal is to provide a wider range of options, flavors and variety to satisfy any craving.”
The bakery lineup includes almond and cherry pastries, cranberry orange slice, coconut macaroon and a chocolate coconut macaroon. The brand also brought back several fall items, including the pumpkin cookie.
The three breakfast sandwiches are Croissant Bacon, Egg & Cheese; Croissant Sausage, Egg & Cheese; and Croissant Egg & Cheese. These further enhance its breakfast menu, which the chain updated in June to include three breakfast sandwiches prepared with ciabatta bread.
The bakery additions come a month after the chain updated its sandwich menu with Spicy Fiesta Chicken and Kickin’ Grilled Cheese — two sandwiches with spicy flavors. The chain is offering half off a bakery item with the purchase of the Spicy Fiesta Chicken Sandwich and a beverage at participating restaurants.
Several other chains, including Sizzler, El Pollo Loco and Subway, have been updating their menus to attract new and latent customers amid broad traffic declines. Noodles & Company is in the midst of a significant menu transformation to fill in gaps in its menu, with the first of its new items to be released in October.
